Great write up on one of my favorite series of all time. One thing I wanted to add as to why the Sopranos succeeded, its because of the proliferation of DVD players in 99 and the season was released as a box set. I don't know if many series did that at this point, but I vividly remember begging my friend to borrow the set so I could get into the show. I didn't start watching week to week until season 3.
